GORDON WEST WEEKEND HAM CLASSES.
I offer 2-day and 3-day weekend ham classes, most in our local area
of Southern California. I also offer mariner's classes in connection
with boat shows throughout the country, as well as RVer classes associated
with RV rallys throughout the country. These distant classes require
a minimum of 75 students, and call 714/549-5000 if you think you want to put
one together.
Our Southern California ham radio weekend classes are all preceded with required
home study. Once you sign up for class, we mail you the works! You
also have a workbook to complete before the weekend class begins. Completion
of the workbook is an assurance of passing the exams Sunday evening which are
administered right in the classroom.
Classes are offered approximately every other month in Southern California. This
web page does not contain the exact dates because new classes pop up often. Your
best bet for locating a ham weekend class near you is to simply call 714/434-0666;
and once you hear my smiling voice, press the appropriate number key that will
give you an up-to-date offering of classes. The 714/434-0666 is a 24-hour
recorded information line, and I quickly go over all of the details of upcoming
classes.
PART 1 AND PART 2 WEEKEND CLASSES.
These weekend classes split up the study preparation for the no code Technician Class license (Part 1) and then about a month later, the worldwide General Class license requiring NO Morse code test (Part 2). These classes are held exclusively in Southern California and offer a relaxed Saturday and Sunday weekend of Technician Class training as well as our follow up General theory class with high frequency radio operating (Part 2). Exams are conducted in the classroom Sunday afternoon.
The approximate cost for each Part of the class is $200 which includes about $100 of home study we send you ahead of time. This includes my exclusive theory book, prestudy quiz notebook, full blown computer course and 4 audio CDs covering the theory and the sounds behind many of the subjects covered in class.
To find out when and where we are offering our next series of weekend classes, please call (714) 549-5000, during the day, Monday through Thursday, 10AM to 4 PM, California time to talk with Gordo or Suzy regarding which class is best for you. After hours, call (714) 434-0666 and follow the voice instructions to get to our class HOTLINE.
THREE-DAY GENERAL WEEKEND CLASS.
Go from no license to General Class license in just 3 days- Friday through Sunday. These classes are usually attended by sailors and boaters ready to head out on the wild blue yonder, or RVers heading up to Alaska or down to Mexico.
These 3-day classes require home study assignments to be completed before the Friday session begins. These are not “cram” classes, but rather, focused training sessions to help you pass both the Technician and General Class written examinations. NO MORSE CODE TEST REQUIRED!
Students must complete the simple home study workbook assignments before class. These assignments cover both Technician Class as well as General Class theory.
Applicants not having enough time to complete the homework before class may still take the class but are NOT assured that all elements can be successfully passed.
Finish the homework and you are just about assured that you will pass with flying colors!
Information about the dates and locations of out next 3-day weekend zero to General Class is available by calling, during the day, (714)549-5000, or after hours and on weekends (714) 434-0666. Approximate tuition for the 3-day class, which includes over $170 of home study materials, is $395.
SATURDAY NIGHT SEMINARS.
Our 3-day, zero to General Class courses usually include a Saturday night radio seminar. This is where we put down the books and pick up the radio equipment, turned on and live. Mariners will learn about marine SSB and ham radio free email. RVers will see the different types of ham radio installations for email, and where to mount the worldwide antenna system. We will have plenty of ham radio equipment on hand to look over the various brands of gear. We will also talk about the importance of a VHF/UHF dual-band, handheld radio when you’re hanging around town, out on the water or up in the hills.
SEPARATE TEST FEE.
Sunday afternoon examinations are conducted by accredited volunteer examiners. The test fee is $14 per exam session and is included in your $395 zero to General class course fee.
